The history of fairy chimneys, which come to mind when it comes to Cappadocia, goes back millions of years. The eruptions in Erciyes and Hasandağı, which were active volcanoes during the geological period, formed from the stratification of lava on the soil, lakes and streams of different thickness and hardness. This layer, called Tuff, changed with lava spewing from the main volcanoes and took its present shape with the eroding of many streams, especially Kızılırmak, flood waters and strong winds.
